Displaying the Gospel…in your role as a wife

Living out the gospel in your role as a wife

The other day I started reading Feminine Appeal by Carolyn Mahaney. This book is about living out the virtues of a godly wife. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book so far and I am really learning a lot.

Feminine Appeal is based on of the following verses:

“And so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.” | Titus 2:3-5 |

Ladies, I don’t know about you but some of that is hard stuff. Self-controlled, working at home, kind, submissive – whew! I don’t think that I am a bad wife but I do know that I have room to improve in all of those areas. That is why I bought this book.

In the introduction of this book Carol wrote,

“Can you conceive of anything that sets forth the beauty of the gospel jewel more brilliantly than the godly behavior of those who have received it? Consider the loveliness of a woman who passionately adores her husband, who tenderly cherishes her children, who creates a warm and peaceful home, who exemplifies purity, self-control, and kindness in her character and who gladly submits to her husband’s leadership – for all the days God grants her life. I dare say there are few things that display the gospel jewel with greater elegance. This is true feminine appeal.”

Before reading this I honestly never thought of my role as a wife as an area to display the gospel. I mean, my hubby is a Christian. He is the spiritual leader of our home. But what I didn’t consider was the fact that when I am displaying the gospel in our home it is an encouragement to him. Also, other people see my relationship with God – they see Jesus – through me and my attitude and behavior toward my husband.

Think about that for a second…

| How you treat your husband is a display of the gospel. |

That statement is extremely convicting for me. I’m not sure if I could honestly say that my attitude and actions toward my husband appropriately display Christ and His gospel.

I want my relationship with my husband to display self-control, kindness, purity, and submission.

I would love for someone to read through this book with me. Would you consider reading it?
