Is it just me or does anyone else hate questions like “What is one thing you can’t live without?” or “If you were stranded on a deserted island what one thing would you want with you?” Those questions are hard and I must admit I find it a little bit ridiculous having to choose one thing (one physical thing) that I value over anything else. I mean for my spiritual well being I would pick my Bible. For my physical well being I would choose a never ending supply of potatoes…oh wait, I guess that wouldn’t be good for my “well being”…
Back on point, choosing one thing as your essential to life is hard, and that is why I liked this week’s 52 Lists prompt from Moorea Seal. This week she asked everyone to list their essentials. A WHOLE lists of essentials! Now that’s a lot easier.
- My Bible
- My journal
- Good pens for my journal (like the one I used in the picture above, which I bought last night at Staples. If you journal I highly urge you to try the Uni-ball Onyx.)
- Green tea
- Friends that will listen
- A good book
- Sleep – and lots of it!
- Recognizing when I need help and can’t do it on my own
- My ridiculously (apparently my new favorite word, I have used it a bazillion times in the last week) comfortable bed
- An occasional good cry
- Praising God through singing
- Alone time
- Taking time to do nothing and relax
- Learning from a challenge
- A nice hot bubble bath
Each and every thing on this list are things that I need or greatly appreciate having in my life. Some of them like “kindness” and “patience” are things that I need more of in my life, and are so essential in my striving to be more like Christ and follow His example.
