Alphabet Date: Letter C

Alphabet Date: Letter C

A couple of weekends ago, Lyle and I went on our Letter C Alphabet Date! We spent the evening in Salt Lake City enjoying each others company. For a “C” date we decided to go see God’s commandments on the oldest known manuscripts – The Dead Sea Scrolls.

(Sorry I don’t have any pictures of these amazing pieces of history, but photography was prohibited.) As we walked through The Leonardo’s exhibit of the Dead Sea Scrolls, I had chills just thinking about how old all the artifacts were. If any of you live near Salt Lake City you have to go see this exhibit before it is gone.

Here is my highlight reel:
1. The Dead Sea Scrolls. Lyle and I got to see the oldest copies of Exodus 15, Leviticus 26:2-16, Deuteronomy 23:26-24:8, pieces of the Greek Minor Prophets, and pieces of Isaiah!
2. The bone gathering boxes. There were several beautiful stone boxes that people used for holding their relatives bones. After keeping their loved ones buried for at least a year, they would return to the graves and dig up the bones and place them in individualized, engraved stone boxes that they kept in their homes. I know that sounds a little gross, but it was awesome to have a visual for passages like Genesis 50.
3. My absolute favorite artifact was the large stone from the 2nd Temple that The Leonardo had out. This stone was a part of the temple during the time that Jesus walked through it! It is a stone from the same temple that Jesus turned over the tables – the same temple where He taught! As I stood beside it with my hands laid on it (don’t worry it was allowed) I almost cried. How great an honor to touch a stone that Christ may have touched.

After seeing God’s commandments Lyle and I drove over to City Creek Center for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. We were told that there would be a 40 minute wait so we decided to walk upstairs to the Disney store.

Wall-e Coffee Cup

Lyle picked out a Wall-E coffee cup, and I picked out a Monster’s University cell phone cover (which just so happened to be on clearance – score!).

Dinner was delicious! Lyle ate chipotle chicken pasta and I had pasta with a tasty meat sauce. And of course we had macadamia nut and white chocolate cheesecake.

  1. This is such a cute idea! A great way to get creative with dates – I might have to borrow it from you. For our “C” date we would probably go see “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” and then get cupcakes from our favorite bakery, and maybe relax afterward with a glass of Chardonnay. So much fun!

  2. This is such a cool, creative idea! I made a date jar (with random dates on popsicle sticks) because I couldn’t think of any cool ideas. Thanks for sharing! This could keep things interesting! 🙂
